Wedding gift: what guests give, and what hosts give back
What makes a good wedding gift for the couple, and the other half of wedding gifting: the return gift hosts often give every guest. Worked orders come to about ₹2 lakh or more, and we can take care of the hosts' side.

A good wedding gift is something the couple will use in their first year, small enough to carry to the venue. The other half of wedding gifting belongs to the hosts, who often give every guest a return gift.
We sell in bulk, so the first half of this post is plain advice on choosing one gift. The second half is for families hosting, and that's the part we can take care of: see our page on return gifts for every guest.
What a good gift for the couple has in common
A good gift does three things: it gets used, it travels easily and it feels chosen for these two people. Check any idea against all three before you buy it.
- It gets used. Something for the home they're setting up, or the routine they already have, beats something that needs a shelf. Bath towels, a set of glasses or a travel organiser all pass. A shelf piece has to find its shelf first.
- It travels easily. It goes from you to the venue, then from the venue to the couple's home. Bulky or fragile gifts make that second trip harder for whoever collects them.
- It feels chosen. A name, a date or a line from a memory you share makes a gift theirs.
If I had to choose for a couple I don't know well, I'd pick something small, plain in colour and useful every day. It's easy to carry, and it's unlikely to clash with their taste. For ideas by what the couple does next, see our gift ideas for the couple.
Three ways a wedding gift goes wrong
Most gifts go wrong in one of three ways: too big, too generic or too late. Each has a simple fix.
- Too big to carry. A boxed set or a large showpiece has to get through a crowded venue and into a car. Pick something one person can carry with a hand free, or ask the family whether it can be sent to the couple's home instead.
- Too generic. A gift with nothing to link it to the couple blends in with everyone else's. Tie it to them with a handwritten note or a photo from a day you spent together.
- Too late. Anything with a name or a date on it needs a proof and production time. Order a personalised gift weeks before the wedding, not in the last few days.
The other side of a wedding gift: what hosts give back
The family hosting often gives every guest who attends a return gift, as a thank-you for coming. That makes it a different job from choosing for the couple.
You're picking one gift for two people. The hosts are picking one design for the whole guest list, then getting it ordered, packed and handed out.
| What differs | Guest to the couple | Hosts to every guest |
|---|---|---|
| How many | One gift | One for every guest on the list |
| Who chooses | You, or a group of friends | The hosting family |
| The test | Will the couple use it? | Will a guest carry it home and use it? |
| Planning time | Days, or weeks if it carries a name | Weeks, because a bulk order needs a proof, then production and packing |
Planning the hosts' side: headcount, one design, hand-out
Plan the hosts' side in three steps: start with the number, pick one design and decide where each gift changes hands. Each step is quick, but all three need settling before you order.
- Start with the number. Use the guests you expect on the day, and add a few spare pieces for late additions so nobody goes without.
- Pick one design for the whole list. I'd keep it to one, because every extra design is another proof to read line by line.
- Decide the hand-out. A gift can wait at each seat or go into a bag at the exit. Choose before you order, because it sets how the gift is packed.
For more on what guests keep, see our guide to wedding return gift ideas. If you're choosing between a box and a bag, hampers for guests compares them.
Hosting? The return gifts are the part we take care of
You need one design for every guest, packed, with the couple's names on it, and we can take care of all of it. Here's what that covers.
- You choose the piece, and every guest on the list gets the same one.
- We add the couple's names or a monogram, and send a proof or order summary for you to approve before production starts.
- The gifts go into a box or a bag, ready for the hand-out.
- We ship from our Delhi warehouse across India, to one address or to each recipient. Orders ship within 12 to 14 working days of order confirmation. After dispatch, allow up to 3 working days in Delhi NCR and up to 6 working days elsewhere in India.
- Every order comes with a GST invoice.
- If we get it wrong, such as a defect, a misprint, transit damage or a short shipment, we fix, replace, credit or refund it.
Two worked orders show the scale. The LOYKA Majestic Maroon Tin is a filled tin, and its listing names almond brittle, almond cookies, almond florentine and choco dates. About 400 units at around ₹500 a head comes to about ₹2 lakh. For the current price, open the product page or ask us for the catalogue.
For a sweets box, take the GoDesi Classic Kaju Katli Box 400 grams, a packaged mithai box, with the Wedding Hamper Bag as its packing. The bag is listed at 12 x 14 x 4 inches, so each gift can go in a bag rather than loose in a guest's hands.
For dry fruit, the Happilo Dry Fruit Potli 500gm lists almonds, cashew nuts, salted pistachios and green raisins. About 200 units at around ₹1,100 a head comes to about ₹2.2 lakh. For something personalised, the Personalised Luggage Tag with Charm has a gold-tone name plate and one charm. GST, branding and shipping come on top of every figure here.
We usually work with 40 units per design. If you need fewer, tell us and we'll work something out.
When to confirm
Confirm your order and artwork at least 7 weeks before the wedding. Confirmation means you have confirmed the order and approved the artwork, so the couple's names and their spellings need to be settled by then.
Our team takes a year-end break, and nothing ships in that window. For the North East, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and the islands, ask us for a date first. Missed the date? Ask us, and we will tell you honestly whether it can still arrive in time.
If the hosts' side is yours, our wedding page shows the range. Send the guest count and wedding date through the contact page, and we'll come back with what fits.
