Wedding gifts for friends: choose by your role, best friend, helping friend or sister and her husband, plus a hosting checklist with round order figures and the 7-week confirm-by rule

For a friend's wedding, a best friend gives something personal, a helping friend something light, and a sibling one gift for the couple. Below are ideas for each role, then what to do if it's your own family hosting.

If it's your sister's wedding, your family needs a return gift for every guest as well. The checklist near the end covers it, and our wedding return gifts page shows the range.

Wedding gifts for friends: start with your role

Your role decides what the gift has to do. The table gives the short version, and the sections after it give the ideas.

Your roleThe gift has toSkip

Friend who's helpingBe easy to give in a busy weekFlowers, cake and anything else that can't wait

A best friend: something only you could give

Give a best friend something that shows you know them. A framed photo of the two of you from years back would do it. So would a letter to open on their first anniversary, or a dinner you book and pay for after the wedding.

Ask whether the gift could have come from anyone. If it could, add one detail only you'd know. I'd put the effort there rather than into the price, because that is the part nobody else can give.

A friend who's helping: keep it light, give it later

If you're running errands and holding the bag all week, give something small, and give it later. The couple may not have time to open gifts on the day, so pick something that's fine to open a week on.

The most useful gift from a helping friend is often the help itself. Offer to take over one chore after the wedding, such as thank-you notes or sorting the photos, and then do it. Put the offer on a card so it reads as a gift, not a favour.

Your sister and jiju: something for both of them

Give a sister and her new husband one gift for the two of them, not two small ones. Look at what comes next for them, a home to set up or a trip to take, and give for that. Our guide to gift ideas for the couple goes through each.

Ask your parents what they're already giving, such as furniture or appliances, so yours doesn't repeat it. Then add something only you can give, like a letter welcoming your brother-in-law into the family. The same applies if it's your brother's wedding.

Your family is hosting: here's what we take care of

If it's your sister's wedding, you're a guest and a host. Besides your own gift, every guest needs a return gift. We can take care of all of it, and this is the checklist in the order a sibling would work through it.

  1. Fix the headcount. Get the final number from your parents.
  2. Choose one design for every guest. One design keeps the order simple. Four from our wedding range are listed below.
  3. Settle whether it carries the couple's names or a monogram. What a design takes is on its page. Copy the spelling from the invitation, and ask us how it would sit on the design you pick.
  4. Decide the packing and where it goes. We can pack each gift in the Wedding Hamper Bag, listed at 12 x 14 x 4 inches, or in a box. Everything goes from our Delhi warehouse to anywhere in India, to one address or to each recipient.
  5. Confirm in time. The timeline is under When to confirm, below.

The four designs for step two are all from our wedding range, and each page lists what it carries.

For the current price, open the product page or ask us for the catalogue. We usually work with 40 units per design. If you need fewer, tell us and we'll work something out.

Orders ship within 12 to 14 working days of order confirmation. Every order comes with a GST invoice. If we get it wrong, such as a defect, a misprint, transit damage or a short shipment, we fix, replace, credit or refund it.

Two orders for a sister's guest list

Each line is one design for the whole list. Packing, GST, branding and shipping come on top.

When to confirm

Confirm your order and artwork at least 7 weeks before the wedding. Confirmation means you have confirmed the order and approved the artwork, so settle the names or monogram with both families first.

After dispatch, allow up to 3 working days in Delhi NCR and up to 6 working days elsewhere in India. Our team takes a year-end break, and nothing ships in that window. For the North East, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and the islands, ask us for a date first.

Missed the date? Ask us, and we will tell you honestly whether it can still arrive in time.

From headcount to quote

Take the headcount you settled in step one to our wedding gifts page and ask for a wedding quote.
