Wedding gift for a couple: choose by their next step, a home, a trip or a couple who has everything, plus one return gift per guest or per couple with round order figures and the 7-week confirm-by rule

Choose a wedding gift for a couple by what they do next: set up a home, go on a trip or, if they already have everything, something made for the two of them. This guide covers each, then group gifts, then what to do if your family is hosting.

If your family is hosting, there's a second job: a return gift for every guest. Our bulk wedding gifts page covers that, and the last part of this guide shows how.

Wedding gift for a couple: ask what changes next

Look at what changes for the couple over the next few months, and give for that. A gift that fits the change gets used, and one that doesn't waits in a cupboard. Call it a marriage gift or a shadi gift: the test is the same.

If you can, ask the couple or one of their parents what is already sorted. A gift from their own list beats a good guess.

Setting up a home: things they'll use every day

Give something they'll use daily that fills a gap in the new home. Bed linen and towels, a pressure cooker, a kettle or toaster, a dinner or tea set, or a framed photo for the new walls all do that job.

Check first whether they're moving into a family home with a full kitchen. If they are, I'd pick bedding or wall art over another appliance, because the kitchen is already covered. Ask before buying anything big, have it sent to their home rather than carried to the venue, and slip the gift receipt in so they can swap it.

Travelling soon: gifts for the trip and after

If they leave on a honeymoon or move to a new city soon, give something light for the trip, or something that waits for them at home. A travel adapter, a power bank or a set of packing cubes fits in hand luggage. A dinner or a spa session they can book on arrival takes no space at all.

For when they're back, a printed photo book from the wedding is something to open once the trip is over. Skip anything bulky, fragile or perishable if they fly out the next morning.

The couple who has everything: something with their names

When they have everything, give something only they have: their names on it, or a memory from the wedding. A framed print of the invitation, an illustration of the venue or a book of both families' recipes all fit.

An experience for two, such as a cooking class or a night away, takes no shelf space. A donation in both their names to a cause they care about is another route, with a card to say so. Skip in-jokes, because both families will see the gift.

A group gift from friends or the office

Pool the money for one thing the couple is short of, instead of five small gifts that overlap. Agree the amount before you collect, name one person to collect and buy, and put every name on one card. For colleagues, keep the amount modest so nobody feels pushed.

If you're hosting: one return gift per guest or per couple?

Give one per couple when most guests arrive as couples, and one per guest when they come alone or in groups of friends and cousins. The count changes with the rule: 300 guests who come as couples is 150 gifts, not 300.

Half as many gifts means the same money buys a bigger gift, or the order is half the size. If most of your list is married couples, I'd go per couple, because each household gets one thing to share and the budget goes further. Count from the confirmed list, not the invitations sent, and say the rule out loud to the family before you order.

Return gifts for every guest: we can take care of all of it

Choosing a gift for the couple is one job, and a return gift for every guest is the other. If the wedding is your family's, we can take care of all of it. We make one design for every guest, with the couple's names or a monogram on it, and we can pack each gift in the Wedding Hamper Bag or in a box. Our guide to hampers for guests compares bag, box and basket.

Everything goes from our Delhi warehouse to anywhere in India, to one address or to each recipient. Orders ship within 12 to 14 working days of order confirmation. Every order comes with a GST invoice. If we get it wrong, such as a defect, a misprint, transit damage or a short shipment, we fix, replace, credit or refund it.

For the current price, open the product page or ask us for the catalogue. We usually work with 40 units per design. If you need fewer, tell us and we'll work something out.

The table sets six designs from our wedding range against the two counts.

What that order looks like at 300 guests

Each line is one design for the whole list. Packing, GST, branding and shipping come on top.

A navy faux-leather luggage tag with a buckled strap and a gold-tone name plate with a small charm, on a pink marble surface.
The navy travel gift set laid out together: a blue steel bottle with a name in script, and an eyewear case, a travel pouch, a passport cover and a luggage tag, each with a gold-tone name plate and a charm.

When to confirm

Confirm your order and artwork at least 7 weeks before the wedding. Confirmation means you have confirmed the order and approved the artwork, so the couple's names or monogram must be settled by then.

After dispatch, allow up to 3 working days in Delhi NCR and up to 6 working days elsewhere in India. Our team takes a year-end break, and nothing ships in that window. For the North East, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and the islands, ask us for a date first.

Missed the date? Ask us, and we will tell you honestly whether it can still arrive in time.

Tell us your count, guests or couples

Open our page on return gifts for every guest, pick a design and send us your guest count and wedding date.
